How to Use Blackout Mode for Private Sessions

2 min read

What is Blackout Mode?

Blackout Mode is a privacy setting that prevents your coaching sessions from being saved. When enabled:

Your conversation is not stored in session history The coach does not remember what you discussed No insights or memories are extracted When you close the session, it disappears completely

When to use Blackout Mode:

Processing something deeply personal you don't want recorded Working through a sensitive situation at work Exploring thoughts you're not ready to commit to writing Having a "thinking out loud" session without a trace

How to enable Blackout Mode:

Go to Settings (click your profile icon, then Settings) Find the Privacy or Personalization section Toggle Blackout Mode on Start a new coaching session — it won't be saved

Quick access: You can also go directly to your privacy settings at `/settings#privacy`

How you'll know it's active:

When Blackout Mode is on and you start an empty session, you'll see a visual indicator with a shield icon showing "Blackout Mode Active" and a note that your conversation won't be saved. Click this indicator to change your settings.

Important to understand:

Blackout Mode applies to new sessions only — it won't delete past sessions The coach still responds normally, but nothing persists after you close You can toggle it on and off between sessions When you turn it off, your next session will be saved normally

A gentle reminder:

Blackout Mode is for privacy, not avoidance. If you're processing something heavy, that's exactly what coaching is for. Use this feature when you genuinely want temporary privacy — not to hide from yourself.
